Beck never ceases to surprise

Modern Guilt is the strangest Beck album I have ever heard. It is simple, clean, and intelligible. I got tired of the wildness and inconsistency from album to album. Upon each download I was wondering whether I would get the “Shit Kicking Truck Driver Neighbor Living Downstairs” or a power ballad? Either I have been missing out or he came back with bang. Modern Guilt is so solid. Every song oozes rock & roll. “Soul of a Man”, “Profanity Prayers”, and “Gamma Ray” have stirred involuntary head bangs from this electronic kid. Beck, at 38, has never had a problem re inventing himself. I personally prefer this – aged and polished to perfection – version.

Kid Cudi "Day’N'nite" (Crookers Remix)

Free Kid Cudi remix at rcrdlbl. At foolsgold’s site is the download. Click on the link. If you haven’t heard Kid Cudi, keep your ears open. I have a feeling he will be a house hold name in a year. The Cleveland born 23 year old MC is now living in Brooklyn working on his new EP. He got the attention of Italian electro house group Crookers. They did an unbelievable job with the remix. It is such a departure from Kid Cudi slow hip hop club banger. You have to hear it understand…

Everything Diplo touches turns to gold…

A few years ago I heard about the Daughter of a Srilankan freedom fighter that Diplo had taken under his wing. This MC from England would turn into the huge international pop/hip hop star M.I.A. His unofficial M.I.A. re-mix album, “Piracy funds Terrorism” mysteriously arrived in my hands. I doubt terrorism had anything to do with it. From that point, I started gathering as much M.I.A. as I could get my hands on. He saw it first.

Again, he has reached out to another aspiring MC. I have blogged about Santogold in the past here. The timing was perfect for another Diplo remix album to put her on the map. Over and over I am hearing Santogold from TV, Radio, Commercials, and Movie Soundtracks. Their new album, “Top Ranking – A Diplo Dub” (Diplo meets Santogold in a dub chamber of remix) picks up from where Piracy left off. It is a flawless mix that has a bunch unbelievable remixes. To Ranking is laced with my favorite Santogold beats and accapellas.

Keep an eye out for the next Diplo Collaboration. It is a lock to be gold.
